How 2020 Can Lead To A Progressive Democratic Party
Matthew Yglesias, the blogger and journalist at Vox, sent out a twitter storm on Sunday that was one of the best summaries of the current state of the Democratic primary I can imagine. In fifteen quick tweets, he really nailed crucial points.
Yet, despite Yglesias’ skills with concision, it’s really worth elaborating on his points. So, here are his tweets, and my comments on each one.
1: Bernie Sanders would’ve been a better nominee than Joe Biden.
No doubt starting with this got some backs up. I agree with Yglesias, but the simple fact is, Biden won the electability argument. I believe that argument is absolutely wrong, and that Biden is actually the least electable of the top eight or so candidates who ran, with the exception of Mike Bloomberg. As there’s no way to prove or disprove this point, few voters are likely to be swayed. But it tells us where Yglesias stands.
2: Bernie Sanders is not going to be the nominee.
I’m still seeing people debate this point, and it is just astounding. Bernie wouldn’t have to just win every remaining primary to get the most delegates, he’d pretty much have to blow Biden out in all of them. How can anyone kid themselves at this point? I believed Sanders would turn out the voters he turned out four years ago. He didn’t…
